If you’ve decided to staycation this year, you might be dreading the prospect of a few weeks at home (we all know the sunshine isn’t a guarantee in the UK). Never fear though, we have got together and come up with our top tips for making it a summer to remember, for all the right reasons! Whether you’re looking to save money or just not quite ready to travel to far off lands yet, we have something for everyone and every budget.
Staycations have become increasingly popular over the last couple of summers, for obvious reasons. That doesn’t mean they aren’t something to be embraced though. It won’t be long before we can all explore all the corners of the world, but for now why not make the most of what is right on our doorstep. Save some cash & just make the most of some much needed time away from the office.
Get creative in the kitchen
So we might not be eating out at all the finest restaurants this year, but that doesn’t mean we need to sacrifice our favourite dishes. If you usually like to play it safe in the kitchen, now could be the perfect time to spice things up a little. Why not spend some time perfecting some new recipe ideas? Don’t forget to invite some friends and family! Garden parties are a great way to enjoy the summer & socialise!
Channelling your inner Nigella or Gordon is a great way to spend some of your staycation time at home.
Learn a new skill or pass on some knowledge
We know going all out and learning new languages etc might not be for everyone, but you could always start small. Maybe spend some time perfecting a new hobby or remembering an old skill. You could teach the kids how to tell the time or get outdoors and teach them to ride a bike.
Learning something new is a great way to occupy your mind and discover a new passion. There are lots of websites now that offer online and distance learning, perhaps it’s something that will help you take the next step in your career? Or maybe just something to pass the time.
Have a night under the stars
Use your staycation time to get back to nature. Whether it's a camp out in the garden or at a local beauty spot, you’re sure to wake feeling revived after a night under the stars. If this last 18 months has taught us anything, it should definitely be to appreciate the little things in life. A night or two in nature doesn’t need to cost the earth & is a great way to make memories that will last a lifetime.
Spending time outdoors & in nature helps your body unwind. A boost for the body and mind.
Have a clear out
Is there anything more satisfying than a complete clear out of things you no longer use or no longer fit? They say a clutter free house equals a clutter free mind & we could not agree more. Make the most of the space you have available with a clear out. If you’re looking at donating things to local charity shops, don’t forget to check their policy on accepting goods. It could be another thing that has changed with current covid guidelines!
Maybe you’ll decide to give your bank balance a boost by selling some of your old items. Whether it’s a car boot or on eBay- selling your old goods is a great way to make some extra cash but it’s also a great way to ensure your things get a second lease of life. Great for the environment- another feel good bonus for you!
Finish those DIY jobs/ start a new decorating project
Summer time at home might mean you finally get round to finishing those DIY jobs you have put off so far. You might have noticed a few things that needed doing during our months of lockdown & now you’ve finally got some time off work to get to it.
We know that blinds play a big part in the look and feel of a home. All our blinds come with handy online measuring and fitting guides. This makes ordering and fitting your new blinds a perfect DIY project over the summer months.
We love voile fabrics during summer months. They stop the glare from the sun without completely obstructing your view outside. A great update when you’re thinking of spending some time staycation-ing at home. It’ll ensure your space stays light and airy, without getting too bright. Voile blinds are a great addition for windows you like to keep open for air too, the light fabric helps keep spaces bright and breezy.
Maybe you fancy upgrading to blackout fabrics- essential for daytime movie marathons and a wonderful way to ensure you get a restful nights sleep. Blackout fabrics are great too for spaces that get a lot of sunlight. Keep your blackout blinds closed during the daytime in sunny bedrooms- a great way to keep the space fresh and cool. We know there's nothing worse than trying to fall asleep in a stuffy, hot bedroom.
If you do decide to spend your staycation time updating your blinds- don’t forget to share your photos with us. Use the hashtag #sharewithswift to be in with a chance to feature on our socials. T’s & C’s apply.
