Why Curtains?

Curtains remain one of the most popular ways to dress windows – and it’s easy to see why. They are brilliant at adding warmth and luxury to any space, and can complement the colour scheme, often playing a pivotal role in bringing the overall look and feel of a room together.

Excluding light and drafts from your room in order to improve energy efficiency. It's also possible to have your made to measure curtains created with alternative linings, including those with blackout or thermal properties. This ensures a good night’s sleep every night. There’s also a range of heading styles. Choose from classic pencil pleats, elegant pinch pleats or contemporary eyelets.

Since all our made to measure curtains are cut to exact sizes, they may also offer improved levels of privacy and energy efficiency compared to standard curtains. If you want to keep the same style running throughout your home, many of our Roman blinds are available in the same fabrics as our range of curtains. How can the fabric impact on the overall look?

The curtain fabric you opt for and the patterns it features can help to create a connection between the different textures you introduce to the room. It can also reflect the mood you are trying to set. Here at Swift, we have a wide range of fabrics available across all our made-to-measure curtains.

You can take your pick from our collection of crushed velvets and suedes that add an element of luxury and refinement to the space. Or you might want to choose bold, contemporary patterns and prints such as a stripes or checks that allow your curtains to take centre stage.

Where can curtains be hung?

As well as contributing to the overall design of the room, the curtain fabric plays a huge role in how much light control there is. So, another way to narrow your search is to think of the room you’re updating when selecting the fabric.

For instance, we have a range of curtain fabrics specially selected for nurseries and children’s bedrooms. These can really help aid a restful night’s sleep when paired with our blackout lining.

The colour of the fabric is also important. Our range includes tasteful neutrals; cool and contemporary greys; and prints and patterns specifically tailored with different rooms in mind. We have colours that are suited to kitchens and living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms. Rooms that are busier, such as the kitchen, are more likely to benefit from curtains in brighter colours, while bedrooms are more likely to require soothing shades.

Curtain Heading Options

We craft our curtains with three different heading options, ensuring you get the perfect finish for your décor:

Pencil pleat is our standard heading on all our made-to-measure curtains. This finish gathers the fabric at the top of the headrail, resembling a line of pencils. It works beautifully on either a curtain pole or a track, making it an extremely versatile finish. This is a popular choice and particularly suits non-patterned and coloured curtains.

Eyelet finish curtains are fitted with 40mm eyelets in a range of four colours, each selected to coordinate with most popular pole colours. These curtains are only suitable for curtain poles and will not work for a track.

Lining Options

We have a range of lining options available for our made-to-measure curtains that add the perfect finishing touch.

Luxury lining is a luxury cotton sateen lining. It won’t completely block out the light but will offer complete privacy within the space. This is our standard lining option for made-to-measure curtains.

Thermal lining is one of our premium options. Thanks to its heat conductive properties, this lining will help keep your room warm and brilliantly blocks out draughts, making it a perfect option for the colder months.

Blackout lining is a premium option for lining. It is ideal for bedrooms as it will block out any light from outside, darkening the space and aiding with sleep.

Interlined blackout lining is our most luxurious lining option for your curtains. Featuring a premium bonded blackout interlining, it adds richness and fullness to the curtains. As well as being our top of the range lining, the blackout feature makes it a practical option too.

Combining Curtains and Blinds

Don’t think that you can only choose between blinds or curtains for your windows. Why not combine curtains with blinds for more flexible light and privacy control?

This option is great if your windows are facing the road and you need privacy while also creating a cosy and homely atmosphere in your living space.

You can keep your blinds closed and the curtains open during the day for flexible light and privacy control, and close both during the night to get the maximum privacy and heat retention. Plus, this combination adds texture and depth to your windows.

If you want to match the two, our roman blinds are made in the same fabrics that we use for our range of curtains. This makes them perfect if you are coordinating window shade styles between different spaces.

Where are our curtains made?

All our curtains are manufactured within the UK, predominately at our production site based in Huddersfield. We are proud of our range of made-to-measure curtains, and so sure of their quality that we provide a five-year guarantee for every product we create. This guarantee offers peace of mind that you are investing in something that will stand the test of time.

Plus, we offer next day delivery on selected curtains through our SwiftTrack service. This means that when you order your made-to-measure curtains before 12 noon, we will make them the same day and deliver to your doorstep just 24 hours later – ideal for adding those last-minute finishing touches.
