9 DIY Christmas Gift Ideas Under £10

The Internet is already full of DIY gift ideas, however many of them require special craft tools and materials, and aren’t easy to make without professional help. We gathered 9 DIY gift ideas you can make using basic materials and that won’t cost you more than £10.

Remember, making DIY gifts in bulk is cheaper and faster. The more practice you have, the better you get at it. Therefore, we suggest choosing one or two of your favourite ideas and sticking to them.

As always, to find all needed tutorials and inspiration, we suggest using Pinterest or YouTube.

1.     Homemade Sweets and Baked Goods

You can’t go wrong with food gifts because everyone likes food! You don’t have to be an outstanding cook to make something delicious for your loved ones. Things like, homemade Raffaello, Rocky Road or truffles are just some examples of the simplest and quickest things you can make without baking. If you’re confident in your baking skills, there are tons of recipes for cookies, brownies or other baked goods.

The rest goes down to the wrapping, you can either use a glass jar, paper bags tight with a ribbon, gift box or disposable plastic container wrapped in a gift paper. Let your creativity and DIY skills take you as far as possible.

Materials needed: ingredients for baking, wrapping materials.

2.     Recycled Magazine Bowl

This is one of the cheapest and the most unique gifts you can create for your loved ones. A recycled magazine bowl is not a last-minute gift, as it takes time and patience to create it. However, it’s a long-lasting and very stylish gift.

I spotted a handmade magazine bowl in Stone & Baker for the first time. It was there for display-only, and the bowl sat perfectly on a wooden table and fitted the Rustic kitchen interior.

There are plenty of YouTube tutorials to guide you through the making process. When wrapping this gift, you can either fill a bowl with sweets, home-baked goods or give it on its own.

Talking about sustainable living, not only does this gift looks amazing, but it’s environmentally friendly. (life goals!)

Materials needed: magazines or newspapers, craft PVA glue, art paint brushes to apply glue.

3.     DIY Chunky Throw Blanket

The chunky knit throws went absolutely viral end of last year, and the trend is carrying onto this and next year for sure. This is one of the most practical gifts for winter – it’s warm, cosy and it looks stunning.

Don’t let the word knitting to put you off; a chunky throw is easy and quick to make, one can be done within 1 hour or so, and you don’t have to have any sewing or crochet experience to make it yourself.

All you need is wool or acrylic yarn, depending on your preference and a budget. Knitting yarn is available in a variety of colours, so if you are making a few of these, you don’t have to worry about them all looking the same.

Materials needed: chunky wool yarn, your hands, scissors.

4.     Handmade Christmas Decorations

You might think, who wants to receive Christmas decorations as their gifts?! But trust us, nothing looks as good on a Christmas tree as unique DIY decorations. Creating handmade decorations is a really exciting activity, and it means a lot to a person you made it for. If you have your own garden with holly berries, cedar trees or other Christmas greenery – even better, decorations will turn out natural and will smell like Christmas.

If you are looking for long-lasting ideas, you’ll be surprised what amazing decorations you can make using winter greenery, pasta bows, yarn, coloured paper, pinecones, ribbon and empty jars. As always, Pinterest is full of ideas and easy tutorials.

You can either create big items like Christmas wreaths or go for smaller options like Christmas tree decorations and other hanging elements.

Materials needed: Christmas greenery, craft materials of your choice, including ribbon, bells, glitter.

5.     Filled Mason Jar

A mason jar is a great gift itself. It’s useful for any household and what’s more – there are so many ways of using them, including storing food or other bits and bobs. The filling of your jar will depend on your budget and gift receiver. You can either fill a jar with hot chocolate components, baked goods, chocolate, sweets, jelly, jam, beauty products or accessories and so on.

Another option is to create a stencilled jar vase, in this case, you can use any jar. The stencilled jar will work great as a candle holder, vase or part of a centrepiece.

Materials needed: Mason jar, filling of your choice. For stencilled jar – jar size and shape of your choice, stencil, aerosol paint and any additional decoration materials.

6.     Christmas Tree in A Pot

Giving a real Christmas Tree in a pot is a great surprise idea. You can either decorate it with sweets, ready-made or handmade decorations, Christmas lights, options are endless, so you choose your favourite option. This will be especially precious for someone who didn’t get a Christmas tree or lives in a small apartment. This gift will cheer up a receiver, and, if cared for correctly, will last many years to come.

Materials needed: small Christmas tree in a pot, decorations of your choice.

7.     Photo Collage

If you’re thinking of a gift for someone dear and very special to you, a photo gift is always a great idea. Creating a gift using personal photos will help to recall warm or funny memories and show your love, thoughtfulness and appreciation. Creating a photo collage with Instagram feed is a creative and unique idea. Further, you’ll avoid using photos that receiver will dislike.

Materials needed: selection of personal photos, photo frame, wrapping materials.

8.     Gift Sets

This is a great last-minute gift idea, which will also be suitable if you’re not into making crafts this Christmas. Creating your own gift sets means you have a full control of products you’re putting inside and the cost of the gift. Starting from hot chocolate, Sundae or movie night sets to a selection of beauty products, candles, soaps or alcohol. When you are choosing products, have in mind a gift receiver to select his/her favourite products.

Materials needed: products of your choice, such as sweets, baked good, hot chocolate components, candles, soaps.

9.     DIY Christmas Cards

We know it’s hard to buy or make gifts for everybody, however giving handmade Christmas cards can mean a lot. Like the rest of the DIY gifts, difficulty level or variation of materials used depends on the time, skills and money you’re willing to spend.

Materials needed: craft materials of your choice.

Make the Creating Process Enjoyable

Most importantly – remember to enjoy the process of crafting the gifts. Play your favourite Christmas songs, make a cup of hot chocolate or another seasonal treat. Invite a like-minded friend to make gifts together.

And remember, Christmas is about gathering together with your family and friends. No one values gifts more than time shared together. Don’t stress out about getting gifts, make this process enjoyable for yourself. Merry Christmas and happy gifts making!
