From playdates and crafting afternoons to beach days and snack times, the school summer holidays are undoubtedly chaotic and stressful for all us parents. But between the busy schedules how do we keep an organised and relatively clean home? I mean let’s face it, when was the last time you enjoyed a hot coffee? I know, what’s that right? I’m convinced iced coffees are trending because us parents just don’t know what to do with a hot one anymore! Fear no more, we’ve got you covered with 5 tips and tricks we’ve learnt along the way, so grab your cold coffee and have a sneaky 5 mins before the kids spot you…
1 - Start as you mean to go on!
Starting with a clean slate will set you off to a fantastic start, so get your mop & bucket at the ready and get rid of those pesky little hand prints that have been on your window for weeks.
2 - De-clutter
Let’s take this moment to throw out that pile of old junk you’ve been holding on to for weeks and create some extra space for those awful plastic toys, at least that may save your feet from standing on lego for a couple of days!
3 - Organisation is KEY
Repeat after me “If Stacey Solomon can do it, then so can we!” A snack drawer in the fridge organised with healthy snacks will keep mess to a minimum, no wrappers = no rubbish, a healthy snack and no rubbish to pick up... if that isn’t a win, win we don’t know what is! Try stick to the organised theme and your six weeks will fly by swimmingly, or maybe just the first one, but one is better than zero right!
4 - A 20 min pick up
What’s a 20 min pick up? I hear you mumble, we know how hard it is to get 2 minutes peace let alone 20, but trust me this will be well worth setting the kids up in front of the TV for 20 mins. Once they’re settled in front of that cartoon that has been driving you mad, grab your washing basket and set your timer for 20 minutes and get moving, pick up as much rubbish those little monsters have left behind, hey you could even put some music on to perk up your mood!
5 - Bedroom & Garden time!
Finally, if you’re anything like 90% of the parents out there then you’ll know that while you’re cleaning one room the kids are in another trashing it, try encourage them to play in their bedrooms or in the garden, this will keep the mess to a limited space while you’re busy getting on top of the washing, or just having a five minutes breather, we know you need it!
