How to introduce striped blinds into your home?

We’re frequently asked how to incorporate striped blinds into the room without them becoming too overpowering. If you’re interested in adding one of our striped blinds into your home but don’t know where to start, we’ve broken it down by pattern and suggested some functions for each stripe style.

Make them a focus

One of the best ways you can utilise stripes into your home is to add striped blinds as a focal point of the room.
Stripes also work wonderfully with all kinds of décor – if your house is themed more traditionally or if you’re looking for sleek modern accent then stripes can work perfectly.
It’s also a good idea to tie one of the stripe colours into another element of your room – to match it to other accents or to the colour of the furniture. One solid colour should be present in both the striped blinds and elsewhere in your room.

Horizontal Stripes

Image shows a bedroom with three large windows. The bedroom contains a bed with grey sheets, an abstract canvas with blue, white, and yellow, and two blue and yellow cushions on the floor. The windows are adorned with bright yellow horizontal striped blinds.
If you’re looking to make your space look wider then Horizontal Stripes are the place to start. If you are adding stripes to a smaller room, or if your living space is smaller, horizontal-stripes can make an area seem much larger.

You can achieve this look by using a horizontal-stripe fabric design such as the Como Ocra Roller Blind or by using one of our Pleated Blinds.

A little more unconventional (and stunningly so) way to bring horizontal stripes into your home is through our Day and Night blinds. These blinds combine opaque and translucent horizontal stripes which can be altered and dimmed to provide more or less privacy and light depending on your mood. Because of this they’re a really unique way to bring stripes into your home and also get the added benefit of creating a striped effect with the translucent panels or switching to a full blackout mode as wanted.

Vertical Stripes

If you want a bold look then a large two-tone vertical stripe can widen or elongate a room – if you have lower ceilings it can give a feeling of a taller wall. You can also use them to guide the eye to other aspects of the room for example you might want to put them above your bed or your sofa to draw the eye downward to focus on a specific piece of furniture.

To achieve this we recommend the Lola Flamenco Roller Blind or the Indiana Grey Roller Blind.

If you’re looking for a more subtle addition but still love the pops of colour that striped blinds can offer then use a thinner striped blind. It can allow you to incorporate many of your colours but without feeling too overwhelming.

For thinner stripes we recommend the Spectrum Lime Roller Blind or the Drummond Oatmeal Roman Blind if you’re looking for an alternative to Roller Blinds. What makes our Roman blinds so attractive is that even though they pleat when they are raised, this doesn’t impact the stripe pattern.

If you’re feeling very bold, you can combine both thick and thin stripes for a really dramatic look. We recommend Endless Mercury Roman Blind to achieve this look.
