Tiny living in a city: The industrial trend

City living may often mean tiny living, but it can also mean you’re surrounded by fantastic industrial style inspiration. The industrial look has been in and out of the spotlight for a few years now, but since the very first time the design world truly embraced reclaimed workbenches, a preoccupation with metal, and a cold, stark aesthetic, this trend has never truly left our hearts.

If you share our love of understated furnishings and sleek, simple lines, let our quick guide to taking inspiration from the big city help you bring the industrial trend into your home – for a look that’s extremely small home-friendly.

Fancy light-fittings take up too much space – both physically and visually. Swap block-coloured light shades or fussy chandelier styles for minimalist light-style glass lights. Glass will provide maximum light, and you can see while making your room slightly bigger visually.

Paired-back window dressing

Curtains are out! Same applies to bulky Roman blinds (Roman blinds are great but not always work for small spaces when creating industrial look). Mimic the professional look of sophisticated city office spaces with aluminium metal slat Venetian blinds, or let a roller blind create a simple block of colour.

Cityscape inspiration

Why not take your inspiration literally and decorate with a cityscape? We love the muted colours and slightly abstract look of walls, but you could let a few stylish skyscrapers in with bedding, cushions or even a simple art print.

Wood, metal and copper all feature heavily in industrial spaces, so opt for grey, silver, bronze and deep browns for an authentic look. Darker, washed colours are some of the main features of the industrial trend. You can add a few bright colours by picking fancy accessories if you want a bit of something different.

Don't be afraid to experiment with a look of your home. Make changes that will create a comfortable environment for better living.
