Sleeptember - Back to School

September, or as it is known in the sleep industry – Sleeptember, is an initiative specifically designed by the Sleep Council to raise awareness of the importance of sleep.

Did you know children need between 8-14 hours sleep per night?

As the new term fast approaches, it’s time to start encouraging your kids into a healthy bedtime routine. Following the upheaval of the school holiday fun and a lengthy lockdown it can seem like a daunting task to promote early nights for your children. With late nights and carefree holidays starting to become a distant memory it is time to focus on good health practices and in particular the benefits of a good night's sleep.

Although with the return of the school term and Autumn drawing closer, September nights are still lighter, making it difficult for your children to get the restful nights sleep they need for a busy and productive day. Our Blackout Blinds can promote a healthy night sleep for your kids and ensure they’re rested and refreshed in time for School.

Why is a restful night's sleep so important to our kids?

Sleep is an essential part of your routine and an absolutely necessary part of a healthy lifestyle. Studies have shown that children who regularly get an adequate amount of sleep have improved attention, mental health, behaviour, learning, memory, physical health and balancing emotions during periods of stress.

Tips to help your children sleep:

Having a consistent bedtime routine helps to promote a good night's sleep for children

- A warm bath with a lavender bubble bath can help your child relax ready for a restful night's sleep.

- Keeping the lights dim encourages your child’s body to produce the sleep hormone, melatonin.

- A bedtime story or relaxing music will help their minds clear ready for the night.

- Avoid screen time an hour before bed.

- Breathing exercises can help your child become sleepy before bed.

- Another big factor is light and temperature levels. Daisy’s room should benefit from blackout blinds and the temperature should be kept between 16-18 degrees Celsius. Referenced from The Sleep Council
