Sleeptember Sleep Well With Swift

As Sleeptember continues here at Swift we’re ready to educate our readers on the importance of a good night's sleep. Last week we discussed how a healthy night's sleep and routine can help get your children back into the swing of leaning upon their return to School.

This week we’re here to tell you how to look after yourself, sleep is as important to us as eating our veggies and keeping hydrated. We know everyday life comes with lots of challenges and it can be hard to face the day, especially without a quality night's sleep. According to The Sleep Foundation adults need up to 9 hours sleep per night. Having that restful night's sleep can help you to feel positive and energised ready for a busy day. Keep reading to get some tips to help prioritise your mental health and finally get that restful night's sleep you deserve.

6 tips to help you sleep well...

A bubble bath

Having a warm bath before bed can help relax your muscles and your mind. Adding a lavender bubble bath or bath bomb can help promote relaxation and let go of any stress from the day.

A warm drink

A warm cup of tea or milk will help reduce stress and anxiety by calming down your nervous system. This can help stimulate the release of melatonin which helps aid sleep.

Switch off

Technology creates a link to the outside world that can be seen as a wondrous thing, but it can also have a negative impact on your sleeping patterns by stimulating your mind, making it more difficult to rest. Blue lights from technology disrupt your melatonin levels, a hormone that facilitates sleep. Creating a ‘tech free bedroom’ can help to aid a restful nights sleep in many ways like removing distracting lights and sounds, Find out more from The Sleep Foundation

Control the caffeine

We all need a little pick me up through the day, whether yours is going for a morning stroll, listening to some of our favourite music, or simply sipping coffee to keep you awake and alert, but did you know that too much coffee in the afternoon can leave our bodies full of caffeine making us restless and unable to sleep? Try limiting your coffee intake though the afternoon and evening time and your body and mind will reap the benefits.

Creating your safe space around your needs is so important to make you feel the ability to rest at ease, a comfy mattress is vital but also making sure your room is the right temperature can enable full relaxation, by adding Roman Blinds and Curtains to your room you're ultimately doubling your chances of a great night's sleep.
