This really is the most wonderful time of year, crisp Autumn walks, bonfire night, Christmas markets, so much excitement around every corner. Before you can get down to enjoying this season it’s time to get your home in order. It can be a daunting prospect thinking of everything that needs doing, but we are here to help. We have a list of the most important housekeeping jobs to tick off! Give yourself the best chance of a stress free winter.
Garden Jobs
As much as we love watching the leaves turn to beautiful browns, reds & oranges, once they start falling and get wet, they become a bit of a pain. Grab your ladders and clear the guttering of fallen leaves. This is so important to make sure you don’t get any blockages which could cause water to build up against the house. This can allow moisture to seep into your home, causing dampness on the internal walls. Keep on top of sweeping driveways and paths too, this reduces the risk of slips or falls.
Now that Summer is over, it’s time to clean down and put away all your garden furniture and equipment. The cooler months mean it’s probably time to hang up the BBQ tongs for this year. Keeping your furniture in a shed or garage will stop any damage from rain & snow, this will keep them nicer for longer.

Kitchen Jobs
Clean out the kitchen cupboards! Make room for all your Christmas goodies by clearing the cupboards of old, out of date spices, tins & jars. Ditch your unused and unloved cleaning products. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes to the feel of your kitchen.
So it’s a job that nobody enjoys, but equally it’s so satisfying once it’s complete. Deep cleaning the oven is essential for the colder months. No more BBQ’s or summer holidays means more eating at home, you’ll want to make sure that the oven is gleaming ready to cook!

Bedroom Jobs
Flip your mattress. For most mattress types it’s recommended you flip at least twice a year to keep them wearing evenly & offering the best support. Now is a good time to get the mattress out and vacuum around it.
Give your duvets and pillows a wash, this could be your last chance to get it out and dry before winter sets in! This will help keep your bed feeling extra from until spring!
Freshen up your blinds! Blinds can generally be wiped with a clean, damp cloth. We don’t recommend using any type of detergent to clean your blind as this may damage or stain it. For curtains and romans, use vacuum attachments and gently use to keep free of dust. You can use febreeze and similar products to keep them smelling fresh! Be careful not to get too close/ wet as this may leave stains.
Have a wardrobe shuffle! Get the vac pack bags out and pack those summer clothes away. Now is the time to swap your summer dresses for winter woolies. Keeping your wardrobe organised will help when you’re getting ready in a rush- every little helps on the cold, dark winter mornings.

Jobs to finish your winter prep
Getting your boiler serviced is potentially a job that’s been put off for the last couple of years. With everything that’s been going on, you might not have felt comfortable with having someone in your home. Now is the time to get a service booked. The last thing you need over winter is a problem with the heating or hot water!
Donate items to charity! We think this is the perfect time of year to donate to charity. Give them your unused & pre-loved items and let them have a new life, in a new home.
It’ll give you more space making your home feel less cluttered.
Second hand gifts are great for all ages, you can get some great finds, save some money & you’re helping a charity get funds.
