Home for the Christmas Holidays

2020 has been a very, very different kind of year, and undoubtedly Christmas will be no different. At the Swift Direct Blinds office we love a good holiday and between Halloween and Christmas we’re usually busy decorating the office from spooky to festive. This year we’ve been doing things a little bit different, like themed zoom meetings and trivia nights, and bringing the festive spirit into the office and our homes in new and exciting digital ways will be no different.

Many of us are worried about Christmas this year and we at Swift Direct Blinds want to encourage you all to take care of your mental health, think about how to make new and beautiful festive traditions, and above all, be hopeful about just how magical Christmas can still be.

Think a little differently this Year

If there is anything that 2020 has taught us – it’s that the people we love are exceptionally important to us. This year we’ve re-invented social interaction, found love and joy in simple things, and learned to keep in touch in different ways. With things changing, sometimes week by week, it might feel a little bit daunting to try to plan Christmas this year but we want to encourage you to prioritise the things that are important to you.

Digital Christmas Carols

If you’re a big fan of Christmas Carols the thought of not getting to sing together or listen to other people sing them might make you feel like the Christmas Spirit isn’t really here yet. But why not turn to some online and digital events to get your fix? You could even invite family and friends to send you videos of them singing carols, or make and send your own – you can even do some socially distanced Christmas Karaoke if the mood so takes you.

The Return of the Christmas Card

Since the whole world went digital snail mail has become increasingly less fashionable. But in 2020 a thoughtful card, note, or prezzie in the post can make all the difference. This year, why not take the time to send out some handwritten cards to friends and family? Or even pop one through the letterbox of a neighbour to let them know you’re thinking of them. You can even get your children involved and have them make and send cards.

Baking, Baking, and more Baking

In March and April it felt like we all collectively decided to audition for GBBO and learn to make bread. As the year winds down we may as well put all of our new baking skills to good use for Christmas. This year instead of getting some of the big staples like mince pies, Christmas cake and pud, or from the supermarket why not make your own? Our top tip for Christmas Food this year is to start the shopping a little earlier, think of what non-perishable items you can get in so you don’t have to stress out about a long, big shop the week of Christmas. It’s also an excellent way to spread your budget from now until Christmas time. Also, you can definitely start eating mince pies in November - we will not grass you up.

Virtually Visit Father Christmas

This year even Father Christmas is going digital! We recently learned you can now video call Father Christmas so that your child can give him their Christmas present wish-list. We think this is one of the sweetest ideas for Christmas this year and a way to make sure your kids don’t miss out on those precious years of imagination and Christmas make-believe. We’re wondering if he takes calls from adults who really, really want a new iphone…

Above all, take care of yourselves, and make whatever time you can for the ones you love in the run up to Christmas.
