5 secrets to a stress-free Christmas
It’s our last blog post this year and we want it to be a meaningful one. So, we’re dedicating this one not to Christmas gifts or DIY decorations, but to YOU and your wellbeing.
We all know how easy we can get stressed out in the run-up to Christmas. As well as the most wonderful time of the year, it is one of the most stressful ones. But not to worry, we have 5 easy tips you can apply to your festive preparation which will help you keep your stress level to a minimum.
1. Say no to what isn’t important
Let’s start with our top tip. We all want to prepare an unforgettable Christmas evening for our guests, hence can easily get caught up cooking plenty of dishes, preparing enchanting decorations, forgetting about taking time to rest and take care of our wellbeing.
We can guarantee you that your guests would prefer you relaxed and laughing over a nice dinner, rather than tired and angry, sitting at the head of a perfect Christmas dinner with fancy decorations and dishes.
So, cross off your to-do list things that aren’t that important and take time to relax and prepare yourself for a wonderful evening with your loved ones.
2. Stick with the tried and true
Love discovering new cooking recipes? That’s great but leave your experiments for after Christmas.
It is not the best time to spoil your guests with sophisticated dishes unless you know how to make them well. Take the stress off your shoulders and stick with dishes that you can do well. This will save you so much stress and time.
Otherwise, rather than enjoying time with your friends and family, you’ll be stressing out over the menu or re-making unsuccessful experiments.
3. Don't hesitate to ask for help
Just because you’re hosting the Christmas party, people don’t expect you to do everything yourself.
Trust us, many of your guests will prefer helping you with small tasks rather than watch you doing it all by yourself. Ask your friends or family to come earlier and help you to finish off your Christmas pudding, decorating the table or greeting other guests at the door and taking coats.
4. Use the 30-minute rule
When the clock is ticking, and you have only a couple of days left before festive dinner, it’s a perfect time to go through your Christmas to-do list and ask yourself - do I have enough time to finish everything on the list? If your answer is “no way”, then cross out all things that will take you more than 30 minutes to complete.
This way you’ll get rid of a never-ending to-do list, plus have an idea of how much more time you need to spend on Christmas preparation.
5. Use essential oils to fight the stress
And the last one. When you’ve done your best preparation but feel a bit nervous in anticipation of meeting your guests. Use essential oils to enhance your mood. These are well-known for their abilities to release the stress and boost your mood. So, stock up with some lavender or lemon oil.
Use an aromatherapy diffuser, dilute your chosen oil with water and apply behind the ears or add a few drops to your bath.
Don’t forget what’s the most important
Remember, Christmas is the perfect season to spend quality time with your loved ones and reflect back on the year and plan some exiting adventure for the next year. So make the most of this joyful holiday.
