Autumn/Winter Colour Palette 2019

When it comes to colour in our homes this season, it’s all about shades that exude confidence and sophistication. Models of New York Fashion Week donned head-to-toe tangy orange shades, bold-but-elegant blues and oh-so refined olive greens. We’ll be creating the same look in our homes; one that catches the eye yet oozes elegance and grace. We’ll be bolder with colour by combining strong, attention-grabbing tones like mustard and teal, or accenting with standout metallics and emerald greens.

Whether you’re looking to give your place a complete makeover, or spruce it up with a new blind and a cushion or two, our Autumn/Winter colour report gives you an insight into which colours are set to be big this season.

1. Ochre, orange & blush

Pantone’s fearless Orange Tiger shade is predicted to be the it-colour of the Autumn/Winter 2019 season. With its tangy citrus tinge, this colour will instantly energise your room. Combine it with the season’s hot-right-now tropical prints, and you’ve got yourself a fully-fledged exotic oasis.

Other orangey tones, such as ochre bring more of a subtle energy to the room and work well as a foundation—think of these as the new magnolia or grey. Coordinate subdued ochre walls with grainy wooden blinds to bring an earthy, almost-rustic atmosphere to your interior.

Combine these two shades with the season's blush—an updated, more muted version of last year’s millennial pink—to lend a soft, healthy glow to the look.

2. Sapphire Blue & Emerald Green

This season sees the return of those much-coveted deeper hues. This time around though, we’re clashing the two because, well, we think blue and green should be seen. Pairing these two colours gives living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms a dramatic yet luxe feel with a subtle undertone of mystery.

Opt for the most vibrant of hues; the sapphires that look almost velvety and the emeralds that make you think of the most luxurious green gemstones. Go bold and mix sapphire walls with sumptuous emerald velvet sofas. Or keep the colour scheme light with a deep blue-painted fireplace, complemented by emerald green accents throughout, from your blinds or curtains to your lampshade. To help you get the colour just right, we offer samples on all of our ranges, from curtains to shutters, so you can get the perfect match for your interior.

3. Metallics on neutral colours

Not just for Christmas, metallics have been working their way into our homes to bring a touch sparkly magic all year round. They take a muted approach this Autumn/Winter season, with a more sophisticated feel. Think of this look as glamorous, yet refined with subtle hints of sparkle and a neutral colour palette.

Galactic prints and celestial motifs were big on the catwalks this season and are set to transcend into our homes. Keep the look subtle by incorporating starry prints, hints of glitter or iridescent textures into soft white or cream-hued interiors. Opt for on-trend brass and brushed metals when it comes to accessorising or furnishing your home for more of a matte texture.

Our selection of metallic blinds and curtains is the perfect way to introduce this trend into your home in an understated style. Find glittery textures in gold, silver and bronze hues, as well as a selection of star-printed designs.

4. Teal Blue & Mustard

This fun and vibrant colour combo makes us think of retro-inspired style. Along with mid-century furniture, bold retro colour palettes have been gaining lots of popularity over the last few seasons. This Autumn/Winter, we’ll be taking inspiration from the 70s by clashing spicy mustards and vivid teal blues.

Dare to don a mustard-coloured wall and accent the look with rich jewel tones like dark teal or emerald green. Adding an artistic touch is key to making this look feel more personal and refined. Adorn sideboards with framed art, choose delicate hand-printed cushions or finish windows with a bold printed blind. You’ll find everything from distinctive striped prints to standout geometric patterns in our new-season collection of blinds and curtains.

6. Frost Grey

Grey has dominated the neutral interior palette for past few years now, and this season is no exception. We can’t get enough of this trusty shade thanks to its ability to pair with almost anything and its understated, sometimes industrial, style.

This Autumn/Winter’s grey trend takes inspiration from the season itself. Frosted branches, clouded skies and foggy mornings; this year’s greys feel wintry and more toned down compared to previous looks. The trend invites you to mix your shades, from cool frosty hues to deeper smokey colours to bring depth and texture to your space.

Pair a tweed charcoal curtain with a light grey wall to achieve the look. Or opt for a slate velvet sofa against a silvery wooden floor. Be sure to warm up the look with cosy faux fur textures, thick wools and soft lighting.

6. Green Olive

This colour trend takes inspiration from the season’s love for the forest and all its earthy shades. The hue feels natural and organic, yet supremely sophisticated and rich, bringing a certain level of refinement to bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and even kitchens. Undeniably versatile, it can work just as well as a statement-making shade as it can as a foundation paint.

Use this colour with this year’s on-trend plaster walls and accent with earthy clay and terracotta tones for a rustic-meets-old-country-house aesthetic. Bring a bohemian-luxe appeal to the look with artsy line paintings, antique wood and statement lighting.

For a subtler use of this shade, offset grey or cream walls with olive green blinds to bring low-key colour to the room. Shop by colour here at Direct Blinds, or use our search bar to find olive green blinds and curtains for your home.
