Drop Information
When measuring for the drop of your Shutter it is important that you have decided whether this will be fitted inside or outside the recess of your window and the style of Shutter you are opting for. The measurements we need for the drop will vary for each fitting and style so it is important your measurements are as accurate as possible. When measuring for inside a recess we always recommend measuring in three places, to the left hand side, the middle & to the right hand side, this will allow for any variances. Always provide the smallest of these measurements, if there are any differences.
If fitting INSIDE RECESS (L Frame) we need the wall to wall, top to bottom, measurement of the drop of your recess, we will make a deduction of approx. 5mm off the overall drop to allow the shutter to fit inside the recess. Please don’t make any deductions yourself.
If fitting OUTSIDE RECESS (L Frame) we need the wall to wall, top to bottom measurement of the recess, plus add 50mm above the recess for overlapping. 50mm can be added below the recess too only if the sill does not protrude.
When fitting OUTSIDE RECESS (Z Frame) we need the complete drop you require & no deductions will be made to the overall width.
If you are going for CAFÉ STYLE Shutters simply measure from the sill or if outside recess fitting, from the bottom position of the frame, up to where you want the shutter to finish.
The height would normally be appropriately half the height of the window opening or up to a horizontal transom rail on your window frame. The final height is to your preference.
NB: If your frame sits on the sill and the windows open inward, you will need to double check the clearances to ensure you can fully open the window when required.
Please see our full measuring guide for Shutters. This includes diagrams and a full step by step guide in greater detail. We strongly recommend reading this before placing any order to ensure that when the Shutters arrive, they fit perfectly.
