Finials originated in ancient Greece as a decorative ornament, marking an object's end or top. Usually found in architecture on top of a building and in interiors on furniture such as bedposts and tall bookcases. Finials are also used on curtain poles.

On curtain poles, finials are attached at each side where the curtain pole ends. They are decorative but also serve the purpose of preventing the curtains from slipping off the curtain pole.

Finials are available in countless designs and materials, from more ornate to modern styles, to suit different tastes and interior schemes.
