How to Measure Curtains - Eyelet and Pleated

Our made-to-measure curtains are custom-made to your exact measurements for a perfect fit. Whether you want your curtains just below the sill, skimming the floor, or pooling for a touch of drama – get the measurements right and the rest is easy. If you’re not sure at any point, we’re just a call or live chat away.

Step 1 - Measure the Width

How you measure the width depends on your curtain heading type. Follow the instructions for yours below.

Eyelet Curtains

Curtain Pole

Measure the width of your pole between the finials or end caps – that's your width measurement.

Don’t have your pole fitted yet? You can calculate your total width size by measuring your window opening and adding an overhang allowance for each side. The overhang should be a minimum of 15–20cm each side.

Pinch Pleat or Pencil Pleat Curtains

Curtain Pole

If you have a curtain pole, measure the width of the pole between the finials.

Curtain Track

If you have a track that is in one piece, simply measure the track from end to end.

Centre Overlap Track

If your track has a centre overlap, measure each section separately and add them together to get your total width measurement.

Don’t have your pole or track fitted yet? You can calculate your total width size by measuring your window opening and adding an overhang allowance for each side. The overhang should be a minimum of 15–20cm each side.

Step 2 - Measure the Drop

Where you measure from depends on the heading type you've chosen. Follow the relevant section below.

Eyelet Curtains

Curtain Pole

Measure from the top of the curtain pole down to where you would like the curtain to finish.

If you have not yet fitted your pole, we recommend measuring from 10–15cm above your window down to where you would like the curtain to finish.

Pinch Pleat or Pencil Pleat Curtains

Curtain Pole

Measure from the bottom of the curtain rings down to where you want the curtain to end.

If you would prefer the curtains to cover the pole, measure from the top of the rings instead.

Curtain Track

Measure from the top of the track to where you want the curtain to finish at the bottom.

If you have not yet fitted your track, we recommend measuring from 10–15cm above your window down to where you would like the curtain to finish.

Step 3 - Decide On Your Perfect Length

The ideal length will depend on your window or door size, the room styling and your personal preference.

Above Sill

Resting Above the Window Sill

We recommend ending the curtain length at 1 cm above the sill when opting for curtains to be the same length as the window.

Below Sill

Falling Below the Window Sill

For curtains falling below the window sill, we recommend ending the curtain length 15-20cm below the sill.

Floor Length

Floor Length Curtains

If you're looking for curtains which skim the floor, we recommend ending the curtain length at 1cm above the floor.

Pooled

Gently Pooled On the Floor

We recommend adding 5cm to your curtain length to create a gently pooled look.

Generously Pooled

Generously Pooled On the Floor

We recommend adding 12cm to your curtain length for a generous pooled look.
