Pinch pleat curtains have a tailored heading where the fabric is hand-sewn or taped into clusters of two or three pleats, pinched together at the base to create a structured, formal look.
Unlike pencil pleat curtains which use a gathered heading tape, pinch pleats are individually formed, giving a more deliberate and decorative finish. They're commonly associated with traditional interiors but have seen a strong revival in contemporary design.
Pinch pleat curtains have a long association with traditional and formal interiors, but they've come back strongly in recent years — particularly in more maximalist, layered, and classic-contemporary interiors. Double pinch pleat curtains in particular look very current when made in luxury fabrics like velvet or linen. If you're going for a clean, minimal look, eyelet curtains may suit better, but pinch pleat is far from outdated.
Pinch pleat curtains hang using hooks inserted into the pleat base at the back of each pinch. These hooks can attach to curtain rings on a pole or slot into a curtain track. The hook position within the pleat can usually be adjusted slightly to control the drop. Pinch pleat curtains are best used with a track or a pole fitted with rings designed for hook-top curtains. Due to the high-quality fabrics and poly/cotton lining used in our tailored curtains, machine washing isn't recommended as it can damage the delicate fabric and cause the dye to bleed. Before any cleaning, remove the curtain hooks from the heading tape and set them aside. For regular upkeep, vacuum your curtains every fortnight using an upholstery attachment, paying particular attention to the edges, corners, and along the pleats where dust tends to build up.
For creases, use a steamer or iron on a steam setting held away from the fabric surface. If you have a stubborn stain, gently blot with a clean cold damp cloth — avoid stain remover or detergent as this can affect the dye. For anything more stubborn, dry cleaning is the best option.
