Black Curtains

Black curtains create a bold, dramatic look and are particularly effective in rooms where you want a strong sense of contrast or a cocooning atmosphere. They also hide dust and marks better than lighter colours. From a light-control perspective, black fabrics are naturally better at preventing light bleed, making them a strong blackout option. In smaller rooms they can feel heavy, so pair with light-coloured walls and plenty of natural light to balance the look.

Black curtains work particularly well against white or off-white walls, where the contrast is clean and graphic. They also sit well against deep colours — navy, dark green, or charcoal — for a dramatic, enveloping interior. For a softer approach, pale grey or warm greige walls tone down the contrast while still letting the curtains make a statement. The key is making sure the rest of the room has enough warmth or texture to stop the space feeling cold.
