Removing Your Existing Blinds

If you're looking to replace your current blinds, our simple guide will make the experience quick, easy and neat, ready for you to order your replacement or try out a completely new style of window dressing.

What to do

Step one: Clear the window
Open the blind up to an open position so the window is clear. Remove all objects from the surrounding window and area - especially any ornaments you want to keep intact! This will make it much easier to take your blind down.

Step two: Open the brackets
The best way to remove your blind will depend on what kind of blind you have. For example, with Roman blinds, you will need to lift the lever on each bracket, or for wooden blinds with concealed front fascias, you may need to use a screwdriver to pry the front face open before you can remove the blind. Be sure to see our fitting instructions for each particular blind type if you've got any queries as to how the blind is attached to the brackets.

Step three: Take down the blind
Once you’ve opened the brackets, remove the blind. Note: if you are planning on replacing the blinds with the same type of blind, you can possibly use the same bracket to hang your new blind. If you’re changing the blind type or simply removing the blind completely, you will need to read on for the next step.

Step four: Remove brackets
Using the correct screwdriver, carefully remove the brackets from the wall. Make sure to hold them in position as you unscrew them, ensuring they do not fall and cause damage.

Step five: Fill holes
Fill any holes left from the screws using some filler. Once dried, use sandpaper to even the surface difference between the hole and the wall.

Step six: Paint over the hole
If necessary, paint over the hole using the same paint shade as the wall. Be aware that in some cases a primer may be necessary before applying the colour. Sit back and let the paint dry - your blind has been safely removed!
